As anyone with fine hair knows, caring for it comes with its own set of rules. Over saturating fine tresses with a multitude of products can quickly weigh down this hair-type making it look greasy and lifeles. Yet on the other hand, not providing it with enough moisture can leave it dry and super frizzy.
Of course, fine to medium hair gets thirsty just as much as thicker hair does, but without the luscious thickness enjoyed by fuller hair, it can be difficult to strike that perfect balance of leaving the hair nourished and well-hydrated, yet not overloaded with product. Enter Joico HydraSplash!
This new hair care collection designed by Joico is specifically formulated to give fine-to-medium hair some much needed moisture and hydration without weighing the hair down, leaving it feeling silky soft, lightweight and most importantly, nourished.
Featuring a whole host of information including a comprehensive guide on what the Joico HydraSplash range actually includes from both a daily care and treatment perspective, summaries on how to use Joico’s HydraSplash range, as well as my own personal review, this article covers everything you need to know about the awesome Joico HydraSplash collection.

Get To Know the Joico HydraSplash Range
Joico have been around for a while now. This California-based brand was founded over 40 years ago and are renowned for being pioneers in the use of Keratin Protein. Throughout the years, they have stayed true to their core values and aim to formulate products that “return hair to its strongest, shiniest, healthiest state with each and every use.”
Despite being around for some time, it was only in 2019 that Joico released a brand new line of products catered to those with fine to medium hair that were in desperate need of hydration – hydration that didn’t weigh down delicate fine hair and thus leaving it lifeless and flat. Joico HydraSplash was born, and has welcomed rave reviews ever since.
Joico’s HydraSplash range is made up of just four products, all of which boast lightweight, moisture-packed formulas that, when used together, are designed to provide 24-hour hydration to the hair. The line includes:
- HydraSplash Hydrating Shampoo
- HydraSplash Hydrating Conditioner
- HydraSplash Hydrating Gelée Masque
- HydraSplash Hydrating Leave-In
With the release of the HydraSplash range, Joico offers hydrating solutions for dry and brittle hair in the form of both day-to-day care as well as more intense treatment options. Whether using just the shampoo and conditioner or all four of the Joico HydraSplash products, one thing is for sure – your hair will start to look and feel shiny and healthy after the very first wash.
Each of the four Joico HydraSplash products are formulated with three key elements: coconut water, sea kelp and SmartRelease Technology.
Coconut water is naturally moisturising and rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as being a great source of electrolytes, all of which are essential for promoting and stimulating hair growth! Sea kelp is brimming with crucial vitamins and minerals that have also been credited with aiding hair growth and maintaining healthy-looking hair.
Last but not least, Joico HydraSplash products also contain a SmartRelease Technology which uses a unique liposome delivery system that steadily releases Rosehip Oil, Arginine, and Keratin. By continuously releasing rosehip oil, the hair is helped to heal, strengthen, and remain protected from regular heat-styling. Arginine also aids in strengthening the hair and decreases hair breakage, as well as fighting against hair loss, whilst keratin gives hair that sleek and shiny appearance everyone craves.
Who Should Use Joico HydraSplash Products?
If experiencing dry, lifeless and brittle hair, it is definitely time to think about adding some much needed moisture into your hair-care routine. Whilst drugstore creamy and moisturising hair products are great for very thick and coarse hair, fine and thin hair can easily be weighed down by these products, effectively stripping it from that much coveted volume and lively vitality.
Due to its lightweight, yet intensely hydrating formula, the HydraSplash range is ideal for fine to medium hair that is prone to dryness and frizzing and will provide that splash of hydration fine hair needs without making it fall flat!
How To Use Joico HydraSplash Products
HydraSplash Hydrating Shampoo
The HydraSplash Hydrating Shampoo is where it all starts, and it serves to properly cleanse the hair in a luscious lather without stripping any natural moisture.
Apply the HydraSplash Hydrating Shampoo onto wet hair, ideally focusing more on the scalp rather than the ends. Why not try using a relaxing scalp massager brush to help lather the shampoo as this ensures that the roots and scalp are thoroughly cleansed from any product build-up and promotes better blood circulation. Thoroughly rinse when done.

HydraSplash Hydrating Conditioner
Once the HydraSplash Hydrating Shampoo has been thoroughly rinsed off, it is time to prepare your hair to be deeply conditioned. Before applying the HydraSplash Hydrating Conditioner, gently pat your hair with a microfibre towel to remove excess water, so that your hair is left suitably damp but not soaking wet.
Then, squeeze out from one to two dime-sized drops onto the palm of your hand, and spread it evenly from the mid-section of your hair right to the ends. At this point, you might want to take advantage of the conditioner’s extra slippage by using a gentle detangling brush to get rid of the knots in your hair. Its moisturising ingredients melt away those stubborn tangles whilst also providing your hair with lasting shine and softness. After leaving this on from 1 to 2 minutes, proceed to rinse well as you would with any other conditioner.

HydraSplash Hydrating Gelée Masque
For extra dry and frizzy hair, consider adding the Hydrating Gelée Masque to your haircare routine every so often. Apply from 1-2 dollops onto your palm and spread it evenly along the length of your hair after shampooing, avoiding the roots and scalp. Leave this on for around 5 minutes to give it time to take effect and deeply moisturise your tresses. After it’s had time to sit on your hair, rinse it out properly and proceed to wrap a quick drying, microfibre towel around your hair to avoid rubbing it dry. If you’ve opted to use the HydraSplash range, chances are your hair is desperately in need of some nourishing hydration. Whilst washing and conditioning hair with the right products is certainly a crucial step, the HydraSplash Replenishing Leave-in Conditioner helps to take your hair-care routine to the next level.
After stepping out of the shower, simply apply a pea-sized amount of the leave-in conditioner along the mid-length to the ends of your freshly cleaned, damp hair prior to styling. This provides dry hair with an extra bout of moisture, adding a brilliant shine to your hair which helps to fight unwanted frizz long after it has been applied. Why I love Joico HydraSplash!
My fine curly hair has always been prone to dryness and frizziness. When I first started experimenting with hair-care, my solution was to throw as much moisture its way as possible; so I bought any drugstore shampoos and conditioners that declared themselves moisturising and massaged heavy curl creams into my locks in a desperate attempt to define and hydrate them. Yet, no matter how hydrating these products claimed to be, my hair always felt dry, looked frizzy – whilst somehow still lacking volume – and was hopelessly unmanageable to style.
I came to learn that the underlying issue was this – the products I was using were either too heavy for my fine, thin hair – resulting in hygral fatigue – or they used harsh chemicals that were stripping my hair of its natural moisture instead of nourishing it! Thankfully, after confiding in my hairdresser, she recommended the Joico HydraSplash range and since then I have never looked back.
The difference was incredible and instantaneous. After just one wash, my hair was significantly less dry and frizzy. It seemed like new life was breathed into my previously lifeless locks. Whilst I had always chalked down the dullness of my lacklustre hair to its natural texture, these hydrating products adorned it with a radiant shine that I never imagined it could have.
Whether I decide to scrunch-dry my hair and indulge in its natural curls, or opt for a silky-smooth straight hair look, using HydraSplash products has left my hair so much easier to style. With my hair no longer weighed down thanks to these products’ lightweight hydrating ingredients, my tresses successfully retained their volume – making them look thicker and fuller – without leaving me to combat unwanted frizz.
To compliment my hair washing regime, in between washes, I also started incorporate a number of frizz-fighting hacks to my daily hair-care routine (for more information on this be sure to check out our article on how to manage frizzy curly hair!). All in all, my hair regained its healthy and vital look as soon as I switched to Joico’s HydraSplash range, which is why I can’t recommend these hair products enough. They have forever altered the way I feel about my hair!
